Printing Proofs of Color

Printing Proofs of Color

Proofs

In our HowYang Printing-Factory, every type of product printing involves proofs.

Many customers provide us with samples for color matching. Some customers use inkjet digital proofs, while others use the color displayed on their iMac computer screens (we calibrate the screen color with the customer’s iMac computer once a month). Additionally, some customers use scanner-generated colors as their standard reference.

Color matching

The same document, when printed in different batches, can exhibit an approximate 8% color difference due to variations in ink control.

To minimize this color difference, we retain ink samples and record the LAB values from the first printing. Each time, we use the same printing machine and a fixed Xrite color detection device.

When reprinting old documents, it is necessary to attach the correct proofs to ensure accurate color matching.

Since 2011, we have had no major color difference incidents.

Due to the lamination process, the color will appear darker. If you need high brightness colors, you should adjust the colors in the document accordingly. If lamination is required, we will compare the laminated sample to ensure the correct color before confirming the first piece.

Wrapping it up

  1. Many printing projects fail miserably, often due to not proofreading the files before printing. More often than not, this problem arises when printing proofs, leading to a product that doesn’t meet your customer’s expectations, or causing you to waste time and money on reprinting.
  2. Print and websites are very different. For the former, all details must be meticulously considered, because once the printing starts, there is no turning back. For the latter, it is the opposite; once there is content and ideas, they should be released as soon as possible to receive feedback, then modified and improved. Websites grow through such rounds of updates and iterations. -by Ben (The Founder of 4liang)
